Cars in German City Found Covered with Swastikas in Blood, Police Report

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Law Enforcement
Police mentioned they were notified by a individual who found a car in Hanau marked with reddish substance

Around fifty vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm police.

Cars, building surfaces and postboxes were vandalized, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they stated in a statement.

Police report they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a man observed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish substance.

The substance had been applied in the form of a Nazi symbol, they stated.

Law enforcement then discovered many other marked vehicles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.

These symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.

Law enforcement state early analysis indicate the fluid was most likely human blood.

"There is still no indication as to its source; officials are not yet informed of any injuries in association with the event," they commented.

Local authorities said they were working "to solve the incident" and have asked to the community for details.

An important political figure commented the vandalism left him without words and had to be resolved promptly.

"This incident hits the core of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the far-right attack five years ago," he wrote on a platform, referring to the killing of nine individuals by a gunman focusing on people of immigrant origin in February 2020.
